• How often should I brush my teeth?

It also slows down tartar accumulation on teeth. The most important time that a person can brush their teeth is right before going to bed. Teeth are more vulnerable during sleep because saliva production slows down. Saliva helps protect teeth by washing away bacteria and acids in the mouth. The mouth dries up during sleep, so removing acids and bacteria that have built up on teeth during the day provides significant protection.

• Is flossing teeth important?

  Flossing is an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene. It involves using a thin string of material to clean between the teeth, removing food particles and plaque that a toothbrush cannot reach. Despite its importance, many people often neglect this step in their oral care routine.

• Can tooth decay be reversed?

  Yes, in its early stages, tooth decay can be reversed. When we consume food, particularly sugary foods and beverages, the bacteria in our mouth produce acids that can gradually erode tooth enamel, leading to decay. This process is known as demineralization. However, our saliva naturally contains minerals such as calcium and phosphate that can be redeposited onto the enamel — a process known as remineralization. Fluoride, whether from toothpaste, water, or dental treatments, can significantly enhance this remineralization process, thus reversing early tooth decay. Nonetheless, once the decay has reached the dentin — the layer beneath the enamel — it cannot be reversed and must be dealt with professionally.
